Research and development
The main content of the project is the development of new non-ferrous metal materials oriented towards alloys based on magnesium, titanium, nickel, copper and other alloys. The use of these alloys is foreseen in the automotive industry for batteries, contactors and possibly other components in electric and hybrid vehicles. Electric and hybrid vehicles using electric motors significantly reduce emissions and fossil fuel consumption, which implies a high level of potential applicability of the present project. At the same time, alloy processing technology, joining and subsequent control by non-destructive testing will be developed to
for inspection of castings and component joints. In pursuit of the objectives in line with the horizontal priority of sustainable development, research and development will be strengthened, technological process development will be enhanced and competitiveness in the automotive industry will be increased. The primary target groups are PhD students and their integration into the workforce, technical staff, welders, technologists and people from academia (both trainers and students) and administrative staff. The output of the project will be an industrial research and development centre, which aims to foster effective collaboration between business and research organisations.
Transfer of technology and results
Through its activities and services, W&TM increases domestic added value, strives for the effective transfer of technologies and results of science and research into the production process and for the development of production processes in industry oriented towards better use of available resources, higher recycling rates and the use of environmentally friendly materials by using scientific and technological development and innovation. It uses and replaces previously used materials with modern materials with a new and higher complex of utility properties, including technological processability (machining, forming, joining). It seeks to develop technological investment units, particularly in the field of mechanical engineering and integrated industrial equipment, with a view to the application and use of light metals and modern materials in transport manufacturing, with a view to reducing overall weight and contributing to the green economy, and the development and application of composite materials.
Materials defects research
W&TM is engaged in research and development of engineering sciences, mainly manufacturing technologies such as welding, casting, forming and heat treatment of materials. Our research focuses on basic research on defects in materials or products after welding, forming, machining, casting. The company is also engaged in the repair and reconstruction of various welded structures and pressure vessels, defectoscopic testing of materials by non-destructive methods, informative testing, measurement, analysis and control of materials. W&TM also carries out extracurricular educational activities. The company works closely with experts
Department of Technological Engineering at the University of Žilina. Welding and inspection of materials by non-destructive testing are carried out in the NDT laboratory rented by W&TM. It also has a welding workshop with comprehensive equipment. It is used for testing welding and joining of various materials.
